The job is not done. Act now for climate justice.
Urgent! Take action today to ensure that the EU commits to tougher emissions cuts of at least 30% at their Spring Council meeting on 25th and 26th March!
The Copenhagen climate talks are over. The result is far from the fair, ambitious and binding deal that you've been calling for - and that we desperately need.
The world's poorest people face a double blow. No new money to help cope with climate change and no new commitments to cut emissions.
In Copenhagen, the UK led in pushing for higher emissions cuts within the EU, but the EU’s commitments are still too low. It has committed to reduce its emissions by 20% by 2020, and 30% if other countries do the same. This isn’t enough - the EU must move to 30% now. Take action today, calling on Gordon Brown to continue to champion emissions cuts of 30% as a first step, rising to more than 40% as soon as possible.
World leaders must act boldly. They’ll only act if they feel the pressure.
There are only two weeks left before this crucial meeting! Please add your details below and click 'send' to ask Prime Minister Gordon Brown to lead on tougher EU emissions cuts.
Dear Prime Minister,
In December 2009, the eyes of the world were on Copenhagen. But instead of seeing a fair, ambitious and binding deal, we saw weak promises, missed opportunities and dangerous delays.
I’m encouraged that the UK has taken a lead in pushing for higher emissions cuts. I urge you to keep pushing and to increase the pressure.
The EU is one of the world’s biggest carbon emitters. By cutting our emissions across the EU, we can make a huge difference and show a global lead. But current EU commitments to 20% cuts, rising to 30% if there’s a good global deal, are not enough.
Please continue to champion emissions cuts of 30% at the very least, rising to more than 40% as soon as possible.
The world’s poorest people, who are confronting a crisis not of their making, can’t afford to wait. Please act now.
Thank you.
